Survival guide incase of flooding
Why are floods so dangerous in the first place?
It is very important to keep safe and know what you are doing in a natural disaster like flooding. Just 6 inches of moving water can knock a adult male off his feet and 2 feet of water can sweep your car away. In the United States the #1 killer in weather related disasters are flooding. In order to keep your family safe during flooding in your area read the tips down below. When a flood starts there almost no time to get prepared. Many people die in flash floods so that is why you have to be prepared just in case a flood hits your area.
Flood Watch and preparing your home First and and actually the most important is the flood watch. If you live in a area well known for flooding always watch for a flood warning. If there is a flood you have to get your first aid kit as soon as possible. As soon as you hear that there is a flood get all your supplies ready and get to high ground. You can move you belonging to higher ground but keep in mind that now time is essential. Make sure to plug out all the electronics and turn off your gas and electricity to prevent explosions that will occur otherwise if not.

get to higher ground When the flooding started your first propriety is to get to high ground with your family and and if you somehow forgot to turn off all your electrical appliances then there is a very likely chance that the flooded waters has an electrical current running through it.
If your somehow don't have a place to go then your best choice or option is to evacuate and go to a place where the ground is higher. The best spots are usually about 15 to 20 feet above the ground. |
if not flooding then make a flood plan In any case even if it is not flooding you should absolutely make a plan about how you are going to #1 get to safety ( you absolutely NEED TO GET TO HIGH GROUND ! ) and #2 what things you will need during the flooding.
supplies you may need in case of flooding. First and foremost is the emergency kit or as some people may call it the first aid kit. be sure to stock it up with a flashlight, batteries , radio, and some cash just in case along with all your usual first aid supplies. And probably the most important is FOOD! During a flood it is highly unlikely/ near impossible to get food unless you already have prepared some. |
